I view myself as a passionate photographer/artist
with strong background as a biologist. I
strive to take pictures showing nature as it exists, with a story as often as possible. Often called an overeducated cowboy, can't argue with that.
As a youngster, I was obsessed with the natural
world. My favorite bedtime books were the
Golden Guide to Reptiles and Peterson’s Guide to North American
birds. Most of my life, I lived in
homes adjacent to “the Alabama woods,” or the prairies and mountains in
Wyoming. I spent days exploring and capturing pets. That love never wavered through
12 years of college, and I finally got my dream job since the age of 30, a
Wildlife Research Biologist. My animal
catching went from crawfish to Desert Bighorn, Mountain Lions, Bears, and
numerous other species. I spent the last
14 years at Arizona State University, teaching young people to do what I did. I am so blessed to have lived my dream
Over 25 years ago, I began writing both
environmental and sporting (fishing) articles for various magazines. I had to take my photos, so my interest in
digital grew out of necessity. After 5
to 6 years, I realized that I loved the
challenge of photography; I was off. I
had taken pictures all of my career, but those were mostly for presentations
and reports. Trying to learn to present
animals and landscapes in an artistic way that would attract people was a new
challenge. It was during that period; I realized that
science needed art, that my hard work put into now dusty scientific journal
articles, was lost on the people who
paid for the work, the general public. I
began to realize a good photographer and writer could inspire more people than
scientists living in their own world.
After ten years, I put together my knowledge of
animals and photography and began to lead photography tours. I’ve done both wildlife and landscape tours,
both nationally and internationally. As
I taught, I also attended many workshops of people’s work I respected and my

is to sell photos that inspire many and write a blog that gives interested
people a chance to learn more about the animals featured here. Thank you for visiting.
